The politically correct Dasavatharam!

The International Sri Vaishanva Dharma Samrakshana recently filed a petition against the film director, producer and the Central Censor Board in the High Court of Madras stating that Dasavatharam contains scenes that hurt the religious sentiments of Vaishnavites in particular. The separate counters, filed by the director and the Central.

Censor Board, stated that it is improper on the part of the petitioner to arrive at a conclusion by merely viewing the promos.

Director K.S. Ravi Kumar in his petition had stated that the story is based on the books published by the Tamil Nadu Government; therefore, it has to be historically correct. The allegations that Kamal Haasan sets his foot on the "Om" mantra and the holy book Bagavadh Geetha is also incorrect. Moreover, the film is not based on Sri Rangam Temple or the God abode there. After hearing the pleadings, Justices Rajasurya and Sathyanarayan enquired the advocate present on behalf of the producer whether the release date has been finalized. On receiving a negative response, they adjourned case to May 20th.

Kamal's Dasavatharam

Kamal's forthcoming Tamil feature film currently being directed by KS Ravikumar.

It is learnt that the story begins with an episode set in the 12th century, and then looks at coincidences. In this, Kamal plays Nambi, a staunch V aishnavite priest. Lyricist Vaali’s lines - ‘Kallai mattum paarthal kadavul theriyadu, kadavul mattum paarthal kalladi theriyadu…” powerfully describe the character’s devotion in playback singer Hariharan’s voice.
The other characters are an American, a Chinese man, a CBI officer from Andhra Pradesh, an old lady, a leader from Afghanistan, a Scheduled Tribes’ leader, George Bush, a Punjabi and one character, who looks like Kamal normally does.
The film apparently has a very simple screenplay sans usual elements of commercial films such as duets and unwarranted action. The actor has dubbed for all the characters, modulating his voice appropriately. Besides watching a lot of video recordings of George Bush, the actor also put in extra efforts to get his tone and accent right. He also took the help of daughter Shruti while attempting to perfect the accent.
